FOREIGN

PRESS RELEASE

This track has been a massive undertaking. It was initially supposed to be released back in June but ended up going through a couple different renditions so we could figure out which one was the best and most release-ready single for PoetYK’s debut EP - Only Child.

Initially we also wanted to release Only Child sometime this year but that since has been forwarded to February 2026.

First Single

This song was a really fun song to record. It was one of the first tracks I worked on over a rather minimalistic beat. It started more vulgar at first but during one of the studio sessions I wanted to step away from the more vulgar side of rap, and make this track more of a foreign sound, futuristic get-up-and-go-get-it type anthem. This entwined with the imagery of driving a foreign car down an empty freeway was the inspiration behind the single cover as well. I hope this song leaves you thinking back to how far you’ve come along and looking forward to where you’re going.

The hyped-up sound was not my original vision for the track, and it came as a byproduct of something else; however, it turned out it worked better for the overall sound and energy of the Foreign. One thing you will notice as you listen is the lavish number of doubles and ad-libs on the track. I was iffy about them but when we started taking them out, it took away from the foreign feeling of the song and was not in alignment with it’s essence. So, it was like Okay forget it. GO GET IT!

Overall, Foreign will take you on a hard-hitting musical journey because of the sharp contrast of the vocals with the deep 808 resonation and relatively minimal instrumentation of the beat. It will hype you up throughout the intro and the chorus until you’re driving 95 in a 65, and then when the verse hits it will take you back down to earth and remind you to slow down because life is precious, and you got sh*t that you still got to do. Live fast, but don’t die young.

Words of caution:

Those 808s might just blow out your car speakers.

Listen to Foreign right here, right now.
